Background

 

Professor Dato' Dr Sheikh Omar has spent the last 32 years in teaching and research at Universiti PutraMalaysia (UPM).  He retired in 2001 as a professor and dean and now serves as a contract professor.  He is also the President of Malaysian Association of Professional Speakers (MAPS). 

 

Sheikh Omar received his formal training in science at the University of Queensland, Australia and the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and the Royal College, London.  As a scientist, he received the highest recognition in Malaysia when he was made Fellow of Malaysian Scientific Association (FMSA) in 1999 and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASc) in 2000.
